"Working
Man" "At the Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont I had the opportunity to paint a fine old gentleman who had spent many years earning his living as a plumber. The years of hard work were very apparent in the slump of his body as well as they were written in his face. I must be honest, at first I thought how am I ever going to make a beautiful painting out of this man. Then as he began to speak his face lit up as he recalled memories from his past and as he spoke I began to see the internal beauty of this man, the joys and the sorrows of a long hard life. Out of that conversation came one of the most interesting paintings I have to date. Amazing what you can see when you listen." |
