MEET
THE ARTIST
I
have often asked myself over the course of the years the question, "Why
do I paint?" Then one day my college professor asked the question; "How
many of you are here because you have to be?" That was the answer to
my question. I paint because it is who I am. You cannot stop doing what
you were created to do without feeling a huge void in your life. No
matter how much you learn, there are always new experiences to experience
or goals to achieve. For you see by trade I have been an accountant.
I returned to college to study art several years ago and I have never
looked back. I
just wanted to take art not even thinking I could be an artist.
Art
has always been a part of me but the choices we make impact the rest
of our lives. In my early life, I decided to be a wife and mother, instead
of going to school to be an artist. I do not regret that decision because
I would not be who I am today. I think it was God's plan anyway. I just
started later in life and that's okay, we all have our seasons. Did
you know that they say it takes age to be a really good artist?
Painting
a portrait accomplishes something that no other subject matter can.
There are other aspects of art that go hand in hand with the conceptual
art of portraiture. That is the telling of a story. Who these people
are, the sparkle in their eye, the dress, mannerisms, the environment.
An artist can convey love, respect, and the dynamics of the human spirit.
One of my favorite drawings is that of my mother. I saw an old picture
of her when she was 18 years old. It inspired me to draw/paint portraits
simply because they mean so much to loved ones. Portraits are cherished
and a family heirloom. If others see and feel what I do when the portrait
is completed then I have accomplished my goal.
There
are other subjects which I enjoy painting in Oil, Pastel and Watercolor,
such as, Floral, Still Life, and Landscapes. If I had to sum it all
up in a sentence, I would say, " I want to give others the same beauty,
peace and joy that I see around me."
I
enjoy being with people immensely. I genuinely enjoy networking and
teaching fellow artists and being taught. Sharing is one of the most
important aspects of being an artist for this process of learning lasts
a lifetime.
